Yes.
And you won't be the first adult to walk through the door knowing absolutely nothing.
That's what beginner means.
You don't need to know how to kick.
You don't need to understand the terminology.
You don't need a martial arts background.
You come to class to learn those things.
Everybody Starts Somewhere
Advanced students can create a distorted picture of martial arts.
You're watching the result of years of practice and comparing it to your first day.
Don't.
The advanced student you're watching once had a first class too.
Your Job Isn't to Impress Anybody
Your first job is simpler:
Show up.
Listen.
Try.
Ask questions.
Make mistakes.
Come back.
That's enough.
Adults Often Bring Their Own Obstacles
Kids usually don't walk in saying:
“I should probably get flexible before I try this.”
Adults do.
We create prerequisites that don't exist.
“I need to lose weight first.”
“I need better cardio.”
“I need to get coordinated.”
“I'll start when work calms down.”
Eventually, preparation becomes procrastination.
Start as the Person You Are Today
Martial arts doesn't require a better version of you to begin.
Training is where you work on becoming more capable.
You don't need to prove that you belong before entering the room.
Walk in as a beginner.
That's a perfectly legitimate rank.
